At 258 Genesee St, in front of Rep. Hanna's Utica office, in Utica NY, at 7 PM on July 20, will be a gathering to protest the attempts by our politicians to balance the country's budget by taking money away from Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
That was, I think, the most surreal sentence I've ever written in my life. It's hard to believe that such a protest is necessary. Balance the budget by attacking the poor and the elderly? It seems unreal, surreal, especially considering that there are so many other ways our elected leaders could balance the budget, like making sure the wealthiest corporations actually pay their taxes and by ending all the overseas wars and . . .
Surreal.
But that's what's happening. Our elected leaders are trying to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and elderly.
This protest will be a stop on the Caravan to Restore the American Promise. Other stops include Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo. More information can be found at CNY Citizen Action.
I wonder if our elected leaders will ever pay any attention to what We the People actually want?
To find out what Bernie Sanders - the Independent (and neither a Democrat nor a Republican) Senator from Vermont, and one of the few American leaders who is paying attention - has to say, check this out:Bernie Sanders.
